MPAS Student Handbook

Re-Entry Requirements – MPAS Degree Program

For students who are returning during the didactic year following an interruption in studies or are reinstated following an appeal of academic dismissal, cleared background and fingerprint checks must be completed at the expense of the student. A student who has not cleared the background and fingerprint checks by the Friday of Week 3 of the first re-entry session will be dropped from courses and withdrawn from the program. All other clinical compliance requirements must be up-to-date by the deadline stipulated for new students.

Students who are returning in the clinical year, a cleared drug screen, background and fingerprint check may be needed depending upon the amount of time since the last cleared screening and the requirements of clinical sites. Students must be clinically compliant with all healthcare compliance requirements prior to the first day of the first scheduled clerkship.

Prerequisite science course credit will be re-evaluated for all students returning to the program in the didactic year. If the science course was not completed within the 10 years prior to re-enrollment, the course will need to be repeated. Students may enroll in prerequisite science courses offered at Chamberlain in a non-matriculating status; prerequisite science courses not offered at Chamberlain may be taken at another institution accredited by either a regional accrediting agency or an agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or the U.S. Department of Education.

All students returning in the didactic year must also demonstrate proficiency in previously completed courses in the form of a written comprehensive examination for each course covering the entire content of that course.

Students returning after an approved Leave of Absence must pass a comprehensive examination for each of the following courses that were previously passed. If a score of at least a 76 percent is not achieved on the first attempt, the student must repeat the course. All examinations must be completed prior to the pre-enrollment appointment:

  • PA-510: CCM Dermatology
  • PA-512: CCM Hematology/Oncology
  • PA-514: CCM Infectious Disease
  • PA-516: CCM HEENT
  • PA-518: CCM Cardiovascular
  • PA-520: CCM Pulmonology
  • PA-522: CCM Endocrinology
  • PA-524: CCM Nephrology & Genitourinary
  • PA-526: CCM Gastroenterology
  • PA-528: CCM Neurology
  • PA-530: CCM Musculoskeletal
  • PA-531: Emergency Medicine
  • PA-532: Surgical & Clinical Skills

Readmitted students who did not have an approved leave of absence or who are reinstated following an appeal of academic dismissal must pass a comprehensive examination for every course that was previously passed. If a score of at least a 76 percent is not achieved on the first attempt on an examination for the courses listed above, the student must repeat the course. If a score of at least a 76 percent is not achieved on the first attempt on an examination for a course that is not listed above, the student must audit the course. All examinations must be completed prior to the pre-enrollment appointment.

Students returning from a leave of absence during the clinical year are required to complete the clinical year courses not yet passed. Depending on the length of the leave of absence and the number of clinical clerkships to be rescheduled, the student’s graduation from the program may be delayed.
